Satoshi Morita

Born in 1978, currently living in Shiga Prefecture. Belongs to Studio Yamanami since 1997. Finds what to draw from art books and illustrated guides, sketches in pencil while considering the composition, then paints in the motif using many dots and lines with a black ballpoint pen. There is no hesitation in his hand movements, and although he appears to be drawing impulsively, he varies the density of his work depending on the location to avoid monotony, and the dense dots and lines overlap to create shadows and are composed. The black dots and lines that wriggle like shadows within the motif are flat, but they look as if they could start moving at any moment.

born in 1978/ living in Shiga/ at YAMANAMI since 1997 Satoshi Morita picks up motifs from picture books for his drawings. After drawing a rough sketch with a pencil, he colors it with a ballpoint pen, drawing a lot of dots and lines. He draws without a moment's hesitation. He works impulsively, but his drawings are not monotonous thanks to the shading made by the dots and lines. Those black dots and lines look as if they were about to move and come out of the drawing paper.
